Sophie Cunningham Talks New Contract with the Fever
Sophie Cunningham has always been open about her feelings, and she was refreshingly honest when discussing her recent contract with the Fever.
The guard re-signed with Indiana for a year, valued at $665,000. However, when West Wilson, co-host of the “Show Me Something” podcast, inquired if the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) deal met her expectations, she quickly shook her head.
“No? I understand, I’m sorry,” Wilson responded, clearly surprised.
Cunningham addressed her situation, saying, “I’m fine! No, really, I am. It’s just challenging. I’m recovering from an injury, and I haven’t been on the court with any team.” She added, “There was so much happening this offseason. I was completely cleared by the doctors, had all the numbers, but still—the doubt lingers. If you don’t step up in front of the decision-makers, there’s always that question mark: ‘Hey, are you really okay?’”
In her candid moment, she expressed some frustration, acknowledging that she tends to be straightforward. She mentioned, “If I wasn’t feeling good, I’d probably say so. Right now, all I want to do is win. I understand it’s a business, yet I find myself thinking, ‘I just want to win.’”
Cunningham had previously played 30 games against the Fever in 2025, but her season was hindered by a torn MCL.
She averaged 8.6 points per game and boasted a career-high 43.2 percent from beyond the arc.
In response to her frustrations over the contract, she stated, “I’m not even going to lie… I’m a little, a little annoyed.”
Despite this, Cunningham remained a favorite among Hoosier fans and made a name for herself with her aggressive defense alongside Fever star Caitlin Clark.
Reflecting on the deal, she noted it served as a “great wake-up call,” reminding her not to take things for granted. “It just added more fire to my butt,” she emphasized. “Coming back from a major injury, like the MCL situation, I’m feeling good and getting back to my best both physically and mentally.”
