South American Criminal Group Aims at Homes in Wisconsin

Robbery of Luxury Home in Mequon Raises Concerns Over Criminal Patterns

Authorities suspect that the recent robbery of a luxury home in Mequon, Wisconsin, reflects tactics typically associated with South American criminal organizations.

According to reports, suspects dressed in black have been targeting homes on a cul-de-sac and near a golf course, making off with cash, jewelry, and other valuable items often linked to organized theft networks. This was highlighted in a recent piece.

Earlier this month, the Mequon Police Department facilitated a meeting with various law enforcement agencies from southeastern Wisconsin to address these concerning incidents.

Investigators are currently collaborating with the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the state crime lab to analyze evidence and compare cases across different jurisdictions. Officials noted that the robbery bears hallmarks of the South American Theft Group (SATG), which is known to operate extensively throughout the U.S., yet the suspects remain unidentified.

Footage from a trail camera in Mequon captured a group moving through a wooded area. They reportedly approach homes from the backyards and enter through doors and windows.

Mequon Police Department Commander John Hall shared insights, indicating a discernible pattern in the suspects’ clothing, the items stolen, and the methodology of the robberies.

Investigators have indicated that this is not an isolated incident confined to the Milwaukee area; rather, it appears to be a trend affecting the state and the nation as a whole.

“What we’ve gathered is that these individuals originate from South America and are coming here to commit these crimes. We suspect there is a larger organized group at play. They have the necessary tools and consistently execute the robberies in the same manner,” he reiterated.

A resident of Mequon expressed shock when her home was targeted amid this series of thefts. She recounted, “I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe the vandalism and how quickly they did this. It felt impossible that it happened to us. Mequon is supposed to be so safe.”

It appears similar cases have been reported over the last couple of years. In 2023, two illegal aliens connected to a South American theft ring were reportedly involved in robbing a jewelry store in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Following that, police tackled several robberies along the southern and east coasts, linking Chilean illegal immigrants to criminal organizations across Latin America.

In 2024, reports indicated that a police chief from a Minneapolis suburb warned residents about a ‘South American criminal organization’ targeting luxury homes in the vicinity.

In response to the robbery, Representative Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.), who is campaigning for governor, criticized the previous administration’s immigration policies. He stated, “This is what the Democratic Party has allowed into our country over the past four years, and no Democrat running for governor has denounced it or called for the removal of criminals. I have advocated for years on the House Judiciary Committee to strengthen border security, including eliminating catch-and-release, stopping parole abuse, and dismantling alien criminal networks. It’s encouraging that the president is finally addressing this crisis seriously, and federal agencies are putting extra effort into keeping criminals off our streets.”
