Southern California Cities Call Off 4th of July Celebrations Because of ICE Raids

July 4th Celebrations Canceled in Southern California

Many cities in Southern California have either canceled or postponed their July 4th festivities due to recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions targeting illegal immigrants. Reports suggest that immigrant families are “withdrawing from public life” following increased agency activity, as noted by Fox11.

This news coincides with protests in Los Angeles against the recent ICE sweeps, which have focused on undocumented immigrants, leading to tensions with law enforcement.

For instance, Bell Gardens has decided to halt all scheduled events until July 10th. This includes the film screenings of Gabrielito Y La Verdad on July 3, Moana 2 on July 10, and Independence Day activities set for July 3 at Bell Gardens Veterans Park.

In Boyle Heights, the planned celebration by Council District 14 has also been postponed in light of the immigration crackdown, according to a spokesperson for the local council.

Additionally, KTLA reported that a summer block party at Gloria Molina Grand Park on July 4th has been postponed, with organizers indicating it will be rescheduled for later this summer.

Protests against ICE and former President Donald Trump are also being organized for Tuesday in several major cities. Breitbart News highlighted that these events aim to gather support for undocumented immigrants.

Notably, activism surrounding these issues isn’t new; similar protests took place in June, driven by the same activist groups responding to Trump’s policies on deportation. The Party for Socialism and Liberation is promoting these events on social media.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has stated that since Trump took office, they have focused on apprehending individuals with serious criminal backgrounds during ICE operations.

DHS reaffirms that their commitment remains centered on targeting those involved in the most severe crimes.
