Southwest trolls Mavs’ Luka Doncic trade amid airline’s bag fees fallout

Southwest Airlines has tricked the Dallas Mavericks over the team's shocking decision to move on from superstar Luka Donsic.

Donsic was the heart of the blockbuster trade that sent five All-Stars to the Los Angeles Lakers five times earlier last month, disappointing the majority of the franchise's fanbase. Mavs received draft picks in exchange for packages from Anthony Davis, Max Chirstie, Doncic and other players.

“We didn't trade Luka…” the airline said. Instagram posts Thursday. The rest of the photos from the post touched on the airline's recently announced bag policy changes.

For over half a century, Southwest has allowed customers to check their packages for free, but airlines have faced backlash after it began to apply. Bag fee May 28th.

The airline has listed the third check bag price at $150 on the Southwest website, but the airline has yet to share details about whether it will be charged to travelers.

Shortly after Donick was traded for the Lakers, fans were seen at the MAVS home game on February 10th at a posterboard sign with the words “Fire Nico.” The sign's language mentioned Dallas general manager Nico Harrison. Several fans were kicked out of the game along with officials from the team cited the NBA Code of Conduct.

Donsic responded to the trade, saying he was initially in a state of distrust.

“I can imagine how surprised I was,” he said on February 4th.

He led MAVS to the NBA Finals after winning his first scoring title last season. In addition to his five appearances in the NBA All-Star Game, Doncic is also a five-time All-NBA selection.
