SpaceX Cancels Starship Test Flight Due to Weather
SpaceX’s attempt to launch its Starship on Monday, marking its 10th test flight, was canceled because of unfavorable weather at the South Texas launch site.
This test was significant for the future goal of landing astronauts on the moon and potentially exploring Mars.
In a message on X, SpaceX stated, “We are pausing today’s flight test attempt due to the weather. The Starship team is evaluating their next best opportunity to fly.”
Prior to this, SpaceX had postponed the first attempt on Sunday, attributing it to a ground system issue, rescheduling for a new launch window at 7:30 PM on Monday.
Starship has faced a number of challenges during its development, including several explosive failures. Flights 7, 8, and 9 did not succeed after takeoff, and another rocket exploded on the test stand in June.
Despite these setbacks, SpaceX seemed optimistic leading up to Monday’s test, with a post on X noting, “We count down to Starship’s 10th flight test. Currently, the weather is 55% better than at the beginning of the launch window.”
Even with the interruption, SpaceX emphasized that each launch attempt contributes to the learning process for the powerful 403-foot rocket.
The main goal for this mission was to test the upper stage of the spacecraft, which aims to return safely to Earth before carrying crew and cargo into space.
A successful flight would be an important step in demonstrating the rocket’s reusability, a key component of the vision for more affordable space travel.
SpaceX had not commented further following the cancellation.
