Victory Celebration for Spain’s World Cup Hero
Ferran Torres, who played a crucial role in Spain’s recent World Cup triumph, took time on Monday to honor President Donald Trump while celebrating the team’s win.
The young striker netted the decisive goal in the 106th minute against Argentina, helping to lead Spain to victory. He was spotted at the New York/New Jersey Stadium, where a jubilant crowd of Spaniards gathered to welcome the team home with a grand parade. Notably, he sported a cap reading “Make Spain Great Again,” a twist on Trump’s well-known slogan.
In a lively scene, Torres posted a photo of himself wearing the hat and showing his enthusiasm while riding in a car with fans.
While it’s unclear if his hat choice had any deeper meaning, Trump presented the World Cup trophy to Spain’s captain Rodri and other players right after the match. The former president, joined by his wife Melania Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, watched the entire nail-biting finale where Spain dominated play.
If it hadn’t been for Torres, who managed to slip one past Argentina’s star goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, the game might have ended in a tense penalty shootout, as the teams were locked in a scoreless tie for so long.
Torres seized a golden opportunity to score when a cross from Nico Williams Jr. led to a loose ball in the box. He didn’t fail to convert. Reflecting on the moment, he remarked, “I think in the end it was a goal of 47 million people.” He emphasized that despite being away from home, they carried the spirit of the nation with them. “Today our destiny was written,” he added.
This marks the second time Spain has reached the World Cup final, and just like in 2010, they returned home with the trophy to celebrate with their fans.
However, the match ended with some drama, as a scuffle broke out between players from Argentina and Spain, prompting FIFA to look into the incident.
