Spike Lee Celebrates Knicks’ Championship Win, Eyes Future
Spike Lee, an iconic fan of the New York Knicks, wasted no time dreaming about the next championship after the team clinched the NBA Finals title for the first time since 1973.
When asked about the victory, he beamed and responded, “Back to back!”
As a dedicated Knicks supporter—he’s had season tickets since 1985, coinciding with Patrick Ewing’s rookie year—Lee is recognized widely as one of the most passionate celebrity fans. Actor Kevin Hart even suggested that the Knicks should award Lee a championship ring.
In a playful video posted on Instagram, Hart echoed this sentiment, urging, “Let’s give @officialspikelee a championship ring, dammit!!!!!!!! Congratulations to the Knicks, congratulations to New York!!!!! I couldn’t wait.”
Lee’s ties to the Knicks are profound. Though born in Atlanta, his family shifted to Brooklyn early on, and he later pursued a master’s degree in film and television at New York University.
In a recent interview, he mentioned he would gladly trade his Oscar for a Knicks title. Fortunately for him, that worry is off the table now.
The Knicks pulled off a thrilling 94-90 victory against the Spurs in Game 5, finally breaking a long 53-year championship drought. Remarkably, they had been trailing by double digits in all five games of the series but managed to recapture leads, ultimately securing their third franchise championship.
If Spike Lee’s hopes of consecutive titles materialize, the Knicks might be on the brink of a dynasty, particularly with their star player and Finals MVP, Jalen Brunson, leading the charge. Since Brunson’s arrival in 2022, the Knicks have won at least one playoff series each year, a stark contrast to the single playoff game victory they managed in the previous 21 seasons.
