Landry Shamet is genuinely thrilled to return to the Knicks.
He marked the occasion by sharing a Knicks-themed video on his Instagram Story, celebrating a four-year, $24 million contract after contributing to the team’s first championship in over five decades.
In the video, Shamet quoted a famous line from the movie The Wolf of Wall Street, mimicking Leonardo DiCaprio: “I’m not leaving. I’m not leaving. I’m not a freaking leaver.”
Various Knicks players, including Jose Alvarado and Karl-Anthony Towns, joined in the celebration with him.
“The show goes on. This is my home,” he said, playfully impersonating the character Jordan Belfort.
“They’ll need quite a wrecking ball to take me out.”
Shamet quickly became a fan favorite during the Knicks’ title run and was set to enter free agency before the team secured his return.
Reportedly, he turned down offers from other teams, choosing instead to help the Knicks defend their championship title.
His new contract enables the Knicks to stay below the second apron, despite owner James Dolan’s recent remarks regarding salary cap constraints.
Shamet, a first-round pick in 2018, began his NBA career with the 76ers and has also played for the Clippers, Suns, Nets, and Wizards.
In his two seasons with the Knicks, he participated in 101 regular season games, averaging 7.1 points in roughly 19 minutes per game.
Although his playing time has been somewhat limited, he has performed admirably in the Knicks’ recent playoff outings, boasting a 47.5 percent shooting rate from three-point range.
During the team’s sweep against the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals, Shamet was particularly impressive, hitting 11 of 12 three-pointers and making pivotal shots during Game 1’s comeback.
Mitchell Robinson is likely to enter free agency, yet the Knicks are returning with a largely intact lineup after re-signing Jose Alvarado on June 26th.
