Despite some progress in US-Europe relations, the recent Ryder Cup over the weekend is becoming less competitive, with the European team taking a commanding lead that surprised many.
The European players are making their mark in this three-day tournament, dominating the second day against the US team. This unexpected advantage led some fans at Beth Page to mock European golfers, particularly Rory McIlroy.
The tension escalated to the point where state troopers had to step in, forming a barrier between the Irish fans and a rowdy group of Americans.
In a tense moment just before McIlroy was about to putt, he turned to the crowd and yelled back at them.
This outburst from McIlroy was met with loud boos from the audience.
“On the course with McIlroy’s group,” commented Oliver Holt from the Daily Mail. “The abuse he faced this morning was excessive—personal and crossing the line.”
A Sky Sports reporter highlighted the incredibly charged atmosphere created by the American fans.

“For those unfamiliar with Bethpage Black’s layout, it’s all happening on this side of the road from holes 15 to 18, not much going on the other side. It tends to get pretty lively here, and this morning you could hear Rory McIlroy telling someone to ‘shut up’ and let him focus.”
Before the event kicked off, European captain Justin Rose was asked if he’d be open to celebrating with President Trump if he wins the Ryder Cup. It’s still uncertain if Trump will show up for the final day, but a European win seems quite probable at this point.
