Two players from the New England Patriots will be able to participate in this weekend’s crucial game, even though serious allegations have been made against them recently.
Stefon Diggs faces accusations of assaulting a female chef due to a financial dispute. According to the woman’s report to the police, Diggs allegedly hit her and attempted to strangle her by wrapping his elbow around her neck.
The day after these allegations emerged, news surfaced that Christian Barmore is also facing accusations for an incident involving a girlfriend back in August.
While both Diggs and Barmore await the outcome of their legal situations, the NFL confirmed they are eligible to play against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
“Their status remains as it is. Both players can participate at this moment,” the league stated.
The NFL guidelines indicate that a player could be placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List only after formal charges are filed, such as a grand jury indictment or similar legal proceedings.
Head coach Mike Vrabel addressed concerns about potential distractions from the allegations but seemed unfazed, saying, “I’m not disappointed at all. These are just allegations. Distractions occur every day, and I trust we will focus on the Dolphins this weekend.”
In Barmore’s case, he allegedly took his girlfriend’s cell phone to prevent her from leaving, leading to a struggle where he purportedly threw her to the ground. The details seem quite serious, and it raises concerns.
David Meyer is representing both players. In light of the Diggs accusations, he stated, “Stefon completely denies these claims. They are not only unsubstantiated but also appear to be linked to a financial dispute. We look forward to clearing this up in court.”
After Barmore’s allegations became public, Meyer expressed confidence, suggesting the evidence would demonstrate that no crime took place and he is eager to resolve the matter soon.
Barmore has reportedly been charged with assault and battery related to a household or family member.
