Stefon Diggs and Christian Barmore of the Patriots remain silent on the allegations

Off-Field Controversy Surrounds Patriots Players

The Patriots have secured the AFC East title ahead of the last week of the NFL regular season, yet they’re in the spotlight for more than just their on-field success – there’s a significant amount of controversy brewing off the field.

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs and defensive tackle Christian Barmore are facing serious criminal charges. On Friday, both players addressed the media regarding these allegations, but their comments were somewhat limited.

Diggs is facing felony charges for strangulation and suffocation, along with misdemeanor assault and battery related to an incident last month. He stated, “It was an emotional time, dealing with everything,” but added that he couldn’t discuss the case further since it’s still open.

Reports suggest that Diggs is accused of attacking a female employee during a financial disagreement at his residence. His arraignment is set for January 23rd, but his legal counsel disputes the accusations.

In his first season with New England, Diggs has emerged as a key player, leading the team with 82 receptions and 970 receiving yards.

Barmore, on the other hand, is scheduled for arraignment in February, facing charges for assault and battery involving a family member. These charges relate to an altercation on August 8, which reportedly stemmed from an argument over the air conditioning and food.

According to court documents, the incident escalated when the woman involved tried to seek help by opening a door, but Barmore allegedly overpowered her and threw her to the ground.

When asked about his legal troubles, Barmore preferred to keep the focus on the game against the Dolphins. “I’m focused on Miami. Just playing football,” he remarked.

The NFL has indicated that both players can continue to play while their situations are being processed legally. The league will not take any disciplinary action until there’s an indictment or arraignment in court.

With a record of 13-3, the Patriots have a chance to secure a first-round playoff bye if they win against Miami in the upcoming game, provided the Broncos fall to the Chargers.
