Stephen A. Smith: ‘Absolute disgrace’ that Dems ‘begging’ an aging Biden to run against Trump

Stephen A. Smith has criticized Democrats for relying on octogenarians like President Biden to defeat former President Trump at the polls.

“This is an absolute embarrassment to Democrats, Democrats, liberals…progressives, and you're begging an 82-year-old man to run for re-election,” Smith said on SiriusXM's “The Howard.” Stern” in an interview on Tuesday. show. “

“What the hell are you doing in 2024 that you have to rely on an 82-year-old man to take down a 78-year-old man with four indictments and 91 counts?” Smith asked.

Mr. Biden is 81 years old and Mr. Trump is 77.

“Why in the world are we sitting here in 2024 and it takes that to beat him?” the ESPN personality and podcast host exclaimed to Stern.

“Not Nikki Haley. Not Chris Christie. Not even Ron DeSantis,” Smith continued.

“No, we need an 82-year-old man for re-election because for the last six or seven years, we haven't been able to come up with a candidate who is capable of defeating Donald Trump,” Smith said.

“I think this is the ultimate indictment on the Democratic Party. I think they've dropped the ball on a series of issues, and that's something I've told some of them to their faces,” said the self-identified independent. Mr. Smith said.

Mr. Stern, a prominent critic of Trump, told Mr. Smith that he disagreed.

“I think the Democratic Party is in trouble because the people have gone so crazy. It has nothing to do with the candidates. There are a lot of good candidates,” said Stern, 70.

“This country has become so violent that we literally can't even get good people and qualified people to run for office,” Stern told Smith.

“Right now, they're dropping like flies because you get death threats when you run for office. You get people ready to blow you up. They're ready to finish you off. I think some of our brightest people are saying 'no' to politics at all,” Stern said.

“I'm not saying Biden is terrible,” Smith said of the current commander-in-chief. “What I'm saying is, look at an 82-year-old man who looks at least a little off his feet and say, 'Please invest in him for four more years.'”

“I personally have nothing against the guy. What I have a problem with about him is his age,” said Smith, 56.

“It's not because of his age, it's because he doesn't seem as convincing as I would like,” he explained.

“I'm not attracted to either candidate. I don't like Trump because I think he's going to cause a civil war in this country. If he's re-elected, he'll go on a journey of revenge as president of the United States. Because I think it will come out,” Smith said.

But Smith added, “I would vote for Biden over Trump any day of the week,” even though he was not attracted to either of the 2024 White House candidates.
