Stephen A. Smith Critiques Democrats Following State of the Union

On Wednesday, Stephen A. Smith shared his thoughts on the Democrats’ approach during the State of the Union, suggesting that they have fallen under President Donald Trump’s influence.

He pointed out, “When Donald Trump questioned you about your support and your stance on immigration, he set the tone! He knew most of you wouldn’t respond. It’s no surprise that 73 of you were elsewhere instead of attending the State of the Union,” during his commentary on the situation.

During his lengthy address, President Trump faced some Democratic lawmakers who had opted not to be present as they participated in a protest event instead.

“He’s suggesting that your dislike for him clouds your judgement, that you’re preoccupied with personal feelings rather than focusing on what’s best for the nation,” Smith elaborated.

Smith emphasized that every time the Democrats reacted emotionally, Trump seemed to enjoy the moment, taking advantage of their responses. “You played right into his hands,” he remarked. “So if anyone wants to label me as a sellout, that’s not my concern. I’m just pointing out the reality.”

He advised the Democrats to refine their messaging, noting, “This guy has been toying with you for over a decade, and you still can’t outmaneuver him! It’s frustrating how easily you fall into his trap.”

Smith started his podcast by urging Democrats to take actionable steps. He questioned, “When will you focus on actual impact, instead of resorting to outbursts like Congresswoman Omar?” He acknowledged he wasn’t disparaging their actions, yet stressed the need for effectiveness.

James Carville had expressed his disdain for Trump, calling him derogatory names, but Smith insisted that the American public prioritizes more pressing issues like health care, housing, and job security over political drama. “People are just trying to get by. When will they realize this?” he reiterated, a bit incredulous.

While Smith leans Democratic, he remains unafraid to voice criticism when necessary. Recently, he urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to come on his show and discuss homelessness in the state.

He referenced Barack Obama’s recent commentary regarding the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles, citing officials who labeled it an “atrocity,” despite spending vast sums to tackle the issue. “I’m just looking for answers on this situation, among other pressing topics like crime and public safety,” Smith concluded. “Where is the accountability?”
