Stephen Colbert describes ICE shooting as a warning sign for America during Trump's presidency

Colbert Critiques Trump’s Immigration Policy Following Shooting Incident

On Thursday, Stephen Colbert, the host of “The Late Show,” expressed serious concerns regarding the Trump administration’s approach to immigration enforcement following a fatal incident involving an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Colbert described the policy as a “fail or die” strategy after Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed during the encounter.

During his monologue, Colbert called out the administration’s handling of the event and encouraged citizens to engage in “peaceful and nonviolent” protests against federal law enforcement presence in their communities. He criticized the White House for allegedly attempting to manipulate the narrative, stating, “The message from this administration is clear: They alone determine the truth, and when their troops come to your city, obey or die. If you die, you clearly disobeyed.”

National Guard Deployment in Response to Minneapolis Shooting

Colbert warned that this issue transcends party lines, emphasizing that the ramifications are significant for anyone living in the country. He remarked, “This should be a wake-up call for the entire country, whether you live in a red state or a blue state. If we let things go unchecked, you could find armed, unaccountable government officials acting without restraint in your own town.” He urged Americans to voice their opposition to such actions.

At the start of the show, Colbert discussed the circumstances around Good’s death, arguing that the shooting was unjustified. He mentioned the video evidence and noted that it appears Good had turned away from the agent before being shot. “It looks like a federal agent shot and killed an American citizen for no reason in front of witnesses,” he stated.

Colbert criticized the administration’s narrative, accusing them of asking people to ignore what they saw and trust the White House’s version of events. He said they were conveying a message that contradicted public perception.

Response from Officials and California Governor

The White House did not immediately respond to inquiries about the incident. Meanwhile, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem labeled Good a “domestic terrorist,” accusing her of endangering law enforcement. In a post on Truth Social, President Trump characterized Good as a “professional agitator” claiming she attacked the agent, backing the agent’s actions as self-defense.
