Stock futures remain mostly stable after the Dow records two consecutive gains: Live updates

Traders were seen working on the American Stock Exchange floor in New York on July 16, 2026.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were mostly stable on Monday evening, following two days of gains for the index. Investors seem to be preparing for a potentially impactful week for large-cap stocks and the impending Federal Reserve interest rate decision.

The Dow futures had a slight increase of 15 points (0.03%), while S&P 500 futures saw a minor decline of 0.05%. In contrast, Nasdaq 100 futures fell by 0.2%.

Wall Street is navigating through a rather choppy trading atmosphere. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained over 260 points, roughly 0.5%, while the S&P 500 experienced slight gains, aided by dipping oil prices as hostilities in the Middle East wane.

Conversely, the Nasdaq Composite Index finished the day down by 0.2%, primarily due to a downturn in semiconductor stocks that pressured the tech-heavy index.

Market tensions reflect the uncertainty brewing ahead of an important week for stocks. Even with some major companies under pressure, the semiconductor trade depends on sustained spending from large-scale users, as investors anticipate earnings reports from firms like Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft. Apple is also on the list to report.

Stephanie Link, chief investment strategist at Hightower, commented on CNBC’s “Closing Bell,” stating, “We expect to hear about the hyprescales’ plans to ramp up their capital expenditures. Some of those stocks might be facing challenges. However, if these companies are investing, that is beneficial for the economy.”

The Fed is set to announce its interest rate decision on Wednesday. Market expectations suggest the central bank will likely hold policy steady during the July meeting, but investors are eager for clearer insights on future monetary strategy. The last instance where federal funds futures incorporated a projection for a quarter-point rate hike was in September, per the CME FedWatch tool.

On Tuesday, traders will pay attention to the Consumer Confidence Index’s release. Reports for the quarterly performances of companies like Coca-Cola, UPS, Corning, and Boeing are also anticipated prior to the market opening.

Investors will maintain their focus on oil prices and the bond market as well. Recently, international benchmark Brent crude oil futures dipped below $90 a barrel, attributed to a lull in conflicts involving the U.S. and Iran. The yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury has stabilized around 4.65%.
