Kentucky Man Faces Charges After Raccoon Incident
A man from Kentucky has found himself in legal trouble again, this time facing multiple charges for a bizarre incident involving a raccoon unleashed in a business. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time he has been in a strange situation with the law; he was previously arrested for allegedly trying to flee from police while riding a mule.
According to the Murray Police Department, they received a complaint about the man releasing a raccoon inside his business around 9:18 PM on June 6th.
“When officers arrived, it was evident that Mason was outside the business and appeared to have been drinking,” the police reported.
The raccoon had reportedly bitten someone inside the establishment, and police noted that Mason had been ordered to leave the property prior to this incident.
Murray police were able to locate Mason while he was driving. Initially, they attempted to pull him over, but he refused to roll down his window or exit the vehicle. Officers had to physically remove him in order to make the arrest.
Mason has been charged with second-degree assault, third-degree trespassing, resisting arrest, and failing to maintain proper vehicle insurance. As of Friday morning, he remains in custody at the Callaway County Jail.
This isn’t Mason’s first run-in with law enforcement. About six months ago, he was also arrested under unusual circumstances involving animals. Back in December 2024, officers responded to reports of unruly individuals at some local bars. Upon their arrival, they discovered that Mason was outside and, once again, under the influence.
Police reported that Mason was riding a mule at the time and refused to comply with their orders to stop, leading to resistance during his arrest. Witnesses later alleged that he had mistreated the mule.
Just a couple of days later, on December 9, 2024, officers noted another incident involving Mason, this time for riding the mule down the road while intoxicated. This led to additional charges for evading police and animal cruelty.
