Shooting at High School Graduation in Northern California
In a tragic incident, an 18-year-old student lost his life, and three others, including an 11-year-old child, were injured during a high school graduation ceremony in Northern California on Wednesday night. Authorities report that the shooting took place at Semyet High School’s graduation ceremony held at Fairfield High School.
Fairfield Police Officer Michelle Berrier confirmed that the three injured victims are 11, 20, and 25 years old. Unfortunately, the 18-year-old succumbed to injuries sustained in the shooting. The survivors are receiving medical treatment, although specific details on their conditions have not been disclosed.
Berrier also mentioned, “We have no information at this time that there is an ongoing threat to the community. This is still a very active case.” Details about the suspect remain unclear, but police plan to release more information soon.
Semyet High School operates under the Fairfield-Suisan Unified School District. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as families gathered after the ceremony, with one person recalling a man running up and opening fire near where graduates were taking photos. Panic ensued, causing attendees to flee.
Another witness reported hearing multiple gunshots, which prompted families to run for safety. Fairfield Mayor Katherine Moy urged community members to trust the information released by local law enforcement as investigations continue.
“My heart breaks for the students and families involved,” Mayor Moy stated. “I graduated from Fairfield High School, and I can’t comprehend or accept this tragedy.” Suisun Mayor Alma Hernandez echoed these sentiments, highlighting the lasting impact of such violence on students and the wider community.
