California and New York Face Resident Exodus

Reports indicate that residents continue to leave California and New York in search of improved living conditions in states that are not governed by Democratic leadership.

According to a report from Thursday, individuals cite burdensome taxes as a major concern:

The latest IRS data reveals that the top 10 counties experiencing the greatest taxpayer outflow are exclusively from California and New York. This data, drawn from federal tax returns, offers insights into American migration patterns and income distribution. Economists note that the trends in movement reflect broader shifts in state economies, tax frameworks, and housing markets, as families weigh affordable living, tax implications, and job prospects in their relocation decisions.

In October, Breitbart News highlighted that over 26% of New York City residents were contemplating leaving if Democrat Zoran Mamdani secured the mayoral position.

Despite his election as mayor, reports suggest Mamdani’s progressive socialist policies left state officials grappling with the challenge of keeping billionaires from exiting New York.

A recent article from FOX pointed out that the outflow of residents could significantly affect funding for education, public safety, and infrastructure. For example, Los Angeles County lost 17,496 taxpayers, contributing over $1 billion, while Queens County in New York saw a decrease of 17,109 taxpayers.

The publication also noted that “While Manhattan welcomed more interstate taxpayers than any other county, it simultaneously lost almost $1 billion in adjusted gross income, indicating that many new arrivals earn less than the retirees.”

E. J. Antoni, chief economist at the Heritage Foundation, remarked on the trend, stating that it’s evident people are “voting with their feet” regarding their relocation choices.

“If you analyze where these individuals are heading, they’re not moving to Massachusetts, Illinois, or California. They’re relocating to Texas, Tennessee, and Florida—states known for lower or no income taxes and overall reduced tax burdens,” Antoni elaborated.

South Carolina is also experiencing notable growth, as reported by Breitbart News.
