Study reveals cell phones are killing face cells and might be doing a whole lot more

a
study A recent study published in the peer-reviewed Elsevier journal Environmental Research found that cell phone radiation can have a variety of effects beyond just warming your face.

background

Mobile phones emit radiation in the radio frequency range of the electromagnetic spectrum.

according to According to the National Cancer Institute, second through fourth generation cell phones emit radio waves in the frequency range of 0.7 to 2.7 gigahertz, while fifth generation cell phones are expected to use up to 80 GHz of spectrum.

Presumably, such “energy is too low to damage DNA. In contrast, ionizing radiation, which includes X-rays, radon, and cosmic rays, is high-frequency and high-energy. The energy of ionizing radiation can damage DNA.”

Radiation that damages DNA is of particular concern because it can cause genetic changes that can significantly increase the risk of cancer, said Christopher Collins, professor of radiology at New York University. Said Forbes reported earlier this year that electromagnetic radiation starts to become ionizing and pose a threat to DNA at around 3 million GHz.

The NCI suggested that beyond heating, “no other dangerous human health effects from radiofrequency radiation have been clearly established.”

Recognizing that the lack of evidence proving a causal link between cell phone radiation and cancer does not prove that such a link does not exist, various health organizations have expressed concern and the need for caution.

For example, the International Agency for Research on Cancer:
maintain Electromagnetic waves emitted by mobile phones may be carcinogenic to humans.

a
study A paper published last year in Environmental Health Reviews found that certain low-frequency magnetic fields generated by power lines and various electrical devices “may increase the risk of childhood leukemia, possibly acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Prolonged exposure to electrical devices that generate magnetic fields above 0.4 µT, such as electric blankets, increases the risk of childhood leukemia.”

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety
Admitted There may be an association between “long-term mobile phone use and acoustic neuroma, a benign tumor of the auditory nerve.”

As the California Department of Public Health noted in a 2017 warning:

Although the science is still developing, some laboratory experiments and human health studies suggest that long-term, heavy mobile phone use may lead to certain types of cancer and other health effects, including brain tumors, tumors of the auditory nerve (necessary for hearing and balance) and salivary glands.[;] Decreased sperm count, decreased sperm activity, and decreased motility[; and] Effects on headaches, learning/memory, hearing, behavior, and sleep.

New study comes under fire

A team of Austrian researchers recently carried out the first human intervention study under controlled conditions to investigate the potential cell-killing and DNA-damaging effects of mobile phone radiation.

Study participants were exposed to low- and high-dose Universal Mobile Telecommunications System signals via a headset for two hours on five consecutive days. Both before and several weeks after exposure, cheek cells from the inside of the cheeks were collected from 41 subjects and examined in detail.

While the researchers found no evidence of chromosomal damage or induction of “nuclear buds caused by gene amplification” by 3G mobile phone radiation, they did observe “a significant increase in binucleated cells, which form as a result of disrupted cell division, and in mitotic cells, a sign of cell death.”

These effects were not observed on the sides of the face in subjects not exposed to UMTS signals.

“These processes can lead to the formation of tumor cells.”

The researchers noted that “we found clear evidence of cell cycle disruption and cytotoxicity. These effects may be responsible for causing long-term adverse effects on human health.”

“These effects can lead to inflammatory responses and the release of reactive oxygen species, which has been confirmed in numerous laboratory studies,” the researchers wrote. “These processes may lead to the formation of tumor cells.”

Tumors are also called neoplasms Tumor cells.

“HF-EMF exposure [between 100 kilohertz and 300 GHz] “Associated with certain brain tumors,” the researchers wrote, “our findings indicate that molecular mechanisms other than chromosomal damage may trigger neoplastic changes in cells as a result of exposure to HF-EMF specific to mobile phones.”

Dr. Rob Brown is a diagnostic radiologist and serves as vice president of Scientific Research and Clinical Operations.
Environmental Health Trusttold the Defender that the Austrian study was “important and should be viewed with great concern.”

“Most previous studies investigating the biological effects of electromagnetic fields and radiofrequency radiation have been conducted in in vitro cell cultures, plants, or animal models,” Brown says, “which has made it easy for industry and policymakers to ignore them.”

Brown suggested that the study also provides “strong evidence that at least some frequencies emitted by mobile phones penetrate the full thickness of the soft tissue in the cheek (usually more than a centimetre) and affect the cells sampled,” a new finding that suggests such penetration might be expected in all parts of the body that mobile phones may come into contact with.
