‘Suicide March’: Democratic Strategist Warns Harris Faulkner That Socialist, Pro-Hamas Faction Could Lead to Party's Demise

Democrat Strategist Warns of Potential Downfall

On Monday, Democratic strategist Julian Epstein voiced concerns over leftist figures like Zoran Mamdani, the Democratic mayoral candidate for New York City, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He suggested that their influence could signal a “death” for the Democratic Party.

Mamdani secured the Democratic nomination for mayor during the June 24 primary, outpacing New York’s former Democratic government and various opponents. Epstein remarked, during an appearance with Harris Faulkner, that the party is on a “suicide march,” criticizing its leadership for failing to address anti-Semitism.

Epstein pointed to past claims made by Democrats about Republican ties to figures like David Duke, suggesting a disconnect where current leftist leaders are, in his view, aligned with extremist ideologies. He lamented the leadership’s inability to take a firm stand against what he described as dangerous rhetoric.

Earlier in the year, during a “Meet the Press” interview with Kristen Welker, Mamdani declined to renounce the phrase “Intifada globalization.” He has also stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested if he visits New York City, voicing support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement.

Mamdani is pushing for various left-wing initiatives, such as government-run grocery stores, free childcare, and public transport access. His campaign has included calls for increased taxes in predominantly affluent and white neighborhoods in New York.

Epstein elaborated on the historical significance of the term “Nazi,” linking it to the National Socialist Party of Germany from the 1930s. He expressed concern over elements of the socialist movement having a history of anti-Semitism, and criticized those who he believes misunderstand the implications of their rhetoric.

In recent developments, pro-Hamas protests erupted at multiple universities on October 7, 2023, following attacks by Hamas that resulted in over 1,200 deaths in Israel. Anti-Israel demonstrators disrupted spaces and issued various slogans, leading to tensions on campus.
