Sukhdeep Singh, an undocumented immigrant, is accused of running a red light and causing the death of an Indiana man.

A truck driver was taken into custody on Wednesday after allegedly running a red light, leading to a deadly accident in Indiana. Identified as an illegal immigrant from India, Singh Sukhdeep has been confirmed by various federal officials.

Sukhdeep obtained his commercial driver’s license in May 2025. Interestingly, he crossed the U.S. border back in 2018 but was released, as he was still a minor at the time.

Currently, he is in ICE custody. The incident took place in Hendricks County, located just outside Indianapolis.

According to KXIN and witness accounts, a Freightliner semi-truck, operated by Sukhdeep, failed to stop at a red light. It collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck, which subsequently hit another vehicle after crossing a median. Tragically, the driver of the Chevrolet, 64-year-old Terry Schultz, died at the scene.

DHS highlighted the dangers posed by such incidents, noting that they occurred less than two weeks after another illegal immigrant driver was involved in a crash that killed four individuals in Indiana. They argued that non-citizens, often unfamiliar with American traffic laws and the English language, should not be operating large vehicles on U.S. roads. The department expressed its condolences to the victims’ families.

Per DHS, Sukhdeep was released as part of the Flores Consent Decree from 1997, which was a result of a Supreme Court ruling regarding undocumented minors. This decree allowed children who crossed the border illegally to be released to relatives rather than being held in custody. The Trump administration attempted to dismantle this policy in 2019, just after Sukhdeep had entered the U.S.

This accident comes closely on the heels of another crash involving Bekzan Bayshekeyev, a truck driver from Kazakhstan, who allegedly caused the deaths of four people. Bayshekeyev reportedly entered the U.S. in 2023 and subsequently obtained his commercial driver’s license in Pennsylvania.

In another notable case from last August, Harjinder Singh, also an undocumented immigrant, made headlines after a truck crash in California that resulted in three fatalities. He was charged with multiple counts of vehicular homicide, with DOT reports indicating he struggled to pass an English proficiency test.
