Sununu says GOP won’t be Trump’s party forever: ‘A‑‑holes come and go’

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) said Thursday he is very optimistic about the future of the Republican Party and the country, saying former President Trump is “not here” forever and that at some point the Republican Party will cease to exist. Ta. loyal to him.

“People are confusing this party with Trump,” Sununu said in an interview with Politico’s Eugene Daniels, to which Daniels pointed out, “It’s Trump’s party.”

“That’s the point.” the governor responded. “It’s not going to be his party forever, right? It’s not going to be that way. At some point, Donald Trump is going to stop coming here, or whatever. We’re all going to spend our time doing it anyway.” There is.”

“So I’m very optimistic about the Republican Party,” Sununu said. “I’m very optimistic about where we’re going as a country.”

Mr. Sununu, a moderate Republican who was one of Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s most effective campaign surrogates on the New Hampshire campaign trail, said that the country has gone through great hardship and that the system is claimed to be strong.

“If you’re one of those people who thinks ‘democracy is eroding and institutions are collapsing,’ stop. That’s not the case. This country has been through hell and back again.” said Sununu.

“Let’s go back to the Civil War, where we were completely torn apart. Our organization remained strong. , experience the racism and segregation of the ’60s, and experience a place like 1968, where some of America’s greatest voices are literally in front of our eyes on television. And the people said, “It’s over.” America is over. ‘ But we stood. Institutions remained strong. We have come together again. We experienced 9/11. We went through a pandemic. The organization stood firm. ”

Sununu reiterated his confidence in the Republican Party’s ability to survive a Trump presidency.

“Let me put it another way: A-holes come and go. But America is here to stay,” Sununu said.
