Supreme Court Rules on Women’s Sports
This week, the Supreme Court delivered a significant ruling favoring women’s sports by upholding laws in West Virginia and Idaho that allow states to organize sports teams based on biological sex.
However, this decision arrives after young girls have already faced distress in these contexts.
A mother shared her experience: “It was during her eighth-grade season that things took a turn for the worse. She came home more and more frustrated, telling us about a boy who was making hurtful comments, some of which were sexually inappropriate.” This mother recalled her daughter discussing the confusing dynamics at track practice.
“There was a day she came home and said he told her and other girls to, well, you can guess what he said,” she explained, visibly upset.
“So we found it really alarming,” she added.
The interviewer asked about the next steps. “The coach called us that same day, mentioning that Adelaiah had been disqualified after this boy entered the competition. She felt it was unfair, and when we shared what had been said, the coach was shocked. Surprisingly, she said she had heard many inappropriate things as well,” the mother recounted.
The mother went on to add that the boy had solicited nude photos from the girls during meetings and exhibited “other inappropriate behaviors” throughout the season.
The coach, who also has a daughter on the team, confided to Adelaiah’s mom that she was “very worried” but felt too threatened to speak out for fear of losing her job.
After this conversation, the mother felt an overwhelming sense of anxiety. “I told Adelaiah that the situation seemed to be getting worse for her and the other girls. What stuck with me was when she said, ‘Mom, that’s not the worst thing PJ has ever said to me,'” she recalled.
It was particularly disturbing for her to learn that the boy had made a graphic threat regarding her daughter’s safety. “I felt sick when I read that he had said, ‘I’m going to put my D-word in your P-word,'” the mother added, horrified.
Presenter Pat Gray commented on this situation, expressing frustration: “They’re aware this is happening, but somehow it’s dismissed because we can’t speak up about a boy who identifies as a girl.”
