Young Democratic candidate drops out of Senate race following the discovery of harmful social media posts.

A young Democratic politician has stepped back from the Senate race in light of some problematic posts about voters that recently surfaced.

Senator Mallory McMorrow, aged 39, expressed her full support for the eventual winner of the upcoming Democratic primary this past Sunday.

She emphasized her commitment to continuing the push for change within the party’s leadership.

“I want to make it clear—this isn’t about anything specific. Sure, I’m halting this campaign, but I’m not giving up on the struggle,” McMorrow stated on social media.

After starting her campaign, the Democratic Party worked to kick off its Senate efforts. Her speech for the 2024 Democratic National Committee gained significant attention online, but the negative impact of the resurfaced social media posts was undeniable. Despite deleting a multitude of tweets, reports detailed some still existed, contributing to the controversy.

One of her tweets from the aftermath of the 2016 election mentioned a “dream” of a hypothetical partition of the U.S. and its neighbors.

During her time in California, she positively replied to a comment labeling people outside of the state as “stupid,” expressing her nostalgia for California.

Interestingly, she seems to contradict a claim in her book about permanently moving to Michigan in 2014.

In her announcement, McMorrow reiterated her resolve to advocate for reform in Democratic leadership.

“I cherish this country, and I adore Michigan. And there’s my daughter, the little girl who waves at me every morning, believing that adults will secure a future fit for her,” she wrote.

“That’s who I’m fighting for. I’m not going anywhere,” she added, urging others to join her cause.

The Michigan primary is scheduled for August 4th.
