Survey: 78 Percent of Americans Desire Immediate End to Conflict with Iran

Majority of Americans Support Ending U.S. Conflict with Iran

A recent poll conducted by CBS News and YouGov indicates that many Americans are in favor of the U.S. terminating its ongoing conflict with Iran. The survey, which took place from Wednesday to Friday, asked participants, “What should the United States do now regarding its conflict with Iran?” CBS reported the findings on Sunday.

Notably, 78 percent of respondents believe the U.S. should end the conflict now, while 22 percent feel it should continue until Iran makes more concessions.

The poll also included responses from Republicans. Interestingly, 60 percent of all Republicans surveyed supported an end to the conflict, with 56 percent of MAGA Republicans in agreement. Conversely, 40 percent of Republicans favored continuing the conflict until Iran yields further, with 44 percent of MAGA Republicans echoing this sentiment.

The CBS News/YouGov survey involved a representative sample of 2,519 U.S. adults, interviewed between June 17 and 19, 2026. The sample was weighted to reflect demographics based on the Census data, and the margin of error stands at plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.

This polling data was shared following President Donald Trump’s signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at ending hostilities with Iran. This event occurred at the Palace of Versailles after the G7 meeting, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signing remotely.

According to further reports, a national survey conducted by Quantas revealed that the preliminary agreement has garnered strong approval from American voters.

Moreover, President Trump confirmed the signing of the MOU, with full details expected to emerge in the next two months. In his remarks, Trump expressed optimism about the agreement’s potential impact, stating, “All the agreements have been signed, and the Straits [of Hormuz] are being monitored.” He emphasized the positive implications for the region and the economy, citing increases in stock market performance.

Vice President J.D. Vance has arrived in Switzerland for the first direct discussions between the U.S. and Iran since the MOU was signed. The context for these negotiations includes escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing conflicts involving Iranian-backed groups, which may complicate the diplomatic efforts.
