Survey: Republican Ashley Hinson is ahead of Democrat Josh Turek in the Iowa Senate Race

Rep. Ashley Hinson Leads in U.S. Senate Race Polling

According to a recent poll from Iowa, Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) is ahead of her opponent, state Rep. Josh Turek (D-IA), in the race for the U.S. Senate. Hinson reportedly stands at 45 percent, while Turek is close behind at 43 percent.

Previous polling also indicated that Hinson had a small lead over Turek, which some analysts described as a “closely divided” situation despite her leading position.

Hinson has drawn contrasts between herself and Turek, especially regarding immigration. She emphasizes the importance of border security, advocating for the enforcement of immigration laws and the deportation of “dangerous criminal illegal immigrants.” In contrast, Turek has faced scrutiny over his support for taxpayer-funded benefits for undocumented immigrants, even as he attempts to distance himself from that stance.

Turek’s legislative history includes votes against measures aimed at curtailing DEI policies in Iowa’s public schools. Moreover, he has changed his position on welfare for undocumented immigrants. Notably, an official newsletter of his suggested ways for undocumented individuals to avoid Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainment.

His website outlines his opposition to the misuse of authority by ICE agents and advocates for an immigration system that includes a pathway to citizenship.

On the other hand, Hinson’s website asserts her belief that every family should feel safe in their communities, highlighting that public safety is rooted in law enforcement and a secure border. She promises to pursue practical policies that protect Iowa families while ensuring immigration laws are upheld.

Recently, Hinson criticized Turek in a social media post, arguing that he is “too liberal for Iowa.” She mentioned his voting history regarding welfare for immigrants and school policies on gender identity without parental consent. “The more Iowans get to know him, the less they like him,” she stated.

This polling information comes as Iowans gear up for the midterm elections, with President Donald Trump actively rallying support among Republican voters across various states.
