Majority of Americans Back Trump’s Iran Peace Deal Goals
A recent report indicates that many Americans are on board with President Donald Trump’s primary objectives related to the peace deal with Iran, according to a survey by YouGov.
The report points to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) from a dinner held at the Palace of Versailles, noting that both nations “jointly agreed to several terms in good faith,” particularly that Iran “will not procure or develop nuclear weapons.”
In this latest survey, 44% of respondents expressed uncertainty about their support for the negotiated MOU, while 32% were in favor and 24% opposed it.
However, when diving into specific components of the agreement, there appears to be greater agreement, at least regarding certain aspects.
For instance, there was strong support—about 69%—for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days with unrestricted commercial navigation. Conversely, only 6% opposed this idea.
Regarding commitments such as “Iran promises not to develop nuclear weapons,” and “the U.S. and Iran will negotiate the disposal of Iran’s enriched uranium,” a notable 69% endorsed these points, surpassing the 8% who disagreed. This consensus cuts across party lines, with support coming from Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike.
Support for lifting U.S. sanctions on Iranian oil exports and unfreezing billions of dollars in Iranian assets stood at 41%. Still, a third of respondents were undecided, while 27% opposed this move.
The survey also inquired about backing a plan for “the United States and its partners” to allocate $300 billion for Iran’s reconstruction and economic growth. Interestingly, the respondents were not informed that this funding would not come from American taxpayers, as clarified by the administration. Surprisingly, 46% were against this plan, 30% were unsure, and only 23% were supportive.
Despite these opinions, there seems to be a lack of optimism regarding the success of the negotiations. Around 50% of those surveyed believe there’s a good chance of failure and a return to war, with 31% indicating it is “very likely.”
This survey, which included 1,679 respondents, was conducted between June 19th and 22nd, 2026, and carries a margin of error of +/- 3.3%.
On Tuesday, President Trump announced that an all-time record of 19 million barrels of oil had flowed through the Strait of Hormuz the previous day.
He added, “Oil prices are down and the world is a safer place!!!”
