Campaign manager Susie Wiles will be President-elect Donald Trump's chief of staff, the president announced Thursday night.
Mr. Wiles went down in history as the architect of Mr. Trump's return to the White House, perhaps the greatest comeback in American political history. She will once again make history as the first female chief of staff to the president.
“Susie Wiles helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history and was an integral part of my successful 2016 and 2020 campaigns,” President Trump said in a statement. said. “Susie is tough, smart, innovative and admired and respected around the world. Susie will work tirelessly to make America great again.”
President Trump added, “It is a well-deserved honor to name Susie as the first female Chief of Staff in American history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), who will soon become vice president, praised Mr. Trump's selection.
“This is great news,” Vance said on the X show. “Susie was a huge asset to President Trump on the campaign trail and will be a huge asset to President Trump in the White House. She's just a really good person too. Go ahead!”
Wiles was often cited as the most likely candidate if she wanted the job.
“We call her 'Ice Baby'…Susie keeps a low profile,” Trump said.
Making key choices within 48 hours allows Trump's transition team to escalate work on selecting other positions within the administration. The new government will include approximately 4,000 political appointees and thousands more.
Mr. Wiles will play the most important official role in staffing the administration. Vance and Donald Trump Jr. also play a key role in staffing the upper echelons of the administration.
