Cold Case Murder Suspect Identified in Texas

Authorities have finally identified a suspect in a long-unsolved murder case in Texas that dates back over 30 years. On Friday, Austin police announced that they linked Robert Eugene Brashers to the murders of four teenage girls that occurred at a yogurt shop in 1991 through DNA evidence.

Reports indicate that Brashers, who took his own life in 1999, was already suspected of being a serial offender at the time. He had previously been convicted of attempted murder for shooting a woman in the head in 1985 and served only three years of a 12-year sentence after being released in 1989.

He fatally shot himself following a standoff with police while hiding in a motel with his family. Interestingly, DNA evidence later connected him to other rapes and murders in Missouri and South Carolina, which included both a mother and daughter, as well as additional cases in Tennessee.

At the time of the yogurt shop murders, two teenagers, Robert Springsteen and Michael Scott, were indicted and later convicted in 2001 and 2002. However, their convictions were overturned after appeals.

The tragic event, often referred to as the “Yogurt Shop Murder,” remains a dark chapter in Austin’s history and is still very much remembered. A documentary titled “Yogurt Shop Murder” premiered recently, shedding light on the case.

Amy Ayers, aged 13; Eliza Thomas, aged 17; and sisters Jennifer and Sarah Harbison, aged 17 and 15, were tragically killed in the incident. They were tied up, assaulted, and shot at the yogurt shop where they worked, leaving the community in shock.

Austin police expressed their commitment to solving the case, stating, “Our team never gave up on the job in this case.” They are set to hold a press conference on Monday to reveal new evidence related to the incident.
