Shooting at ICE Facility in Dallas: Key Developments

On September 24, 2025, FBI Director Kash Patel shared new information regarding the shooter involved in the tragic incident at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center. Patel indicated that the suspect appeared to have acted on an “ideological motive,” noting that he had researched the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk prior to the attack.

The shooting resulted in the death of one detainee and left two others seriously injured before the 29-year-old gunman, identified as Joshua Jahn, took his own life. Thankfully, no ICE agents were hurt during the incident.

In the morning following the attack, Patel reported that Jahn had conducted online searches for terms like “Charlie Kirk shot video” in the days leading up to the shooting.

Patel mentioned in a social media post that both the Dallas FBI field office and FBI HQ have been actively working to collect evidence, including digital devices and documents found at the shooter’s residence. He assured that the FBI is dedicated to providing frequent updates.

Notably, Jahn had also downloaded a document related to DHS facilities, adding to the growing evidence of his planning.

It came to light that the suspect had made several internet inquiries on the day of the attack, including searches concerning “ballistics” and the aforementioned video.

Patel continued to elaborate that between August 19 and 24, Jahn had explored applications intended to track the movement of ICE agents.

Moreover, investigators found a handwritten note on him, stating: “Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, ‘is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?’” This indicates a significant level of premeditation, as Patel highlighted that the evidence suggests extensive planning.

Patel also shared an image of unspent shell casings from the scene, with one casing marked “ANTI-ICE,” hinting at the shooter’s opposition to ICE and the previous Trump administration.

“While the investigation is still in progress, preliminary findings indicate a clear ideological motive behind this attack,” Patel remarked. He also mentioned the alarming trend of politically motivated assaults against law enforcement, referencing a recent incident where an individual ambushed another ICE facility in Texas.

This shooting marks yet another event in a growing list of violent actions linked to left-wing individuals, paralleling recent high-profile attacks, including that on Charlie Kirk, whose assailant had similarly displayed AntiFa sentiments.

The investigation continues, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
