Brutal Murder in Devil’s Den State Park
A man, accused of killing two parents in front of their children at Arkansas’ Devil’s Den State Park, had a chilling demeanor, according to his hairstylist. She described him as someone who “seemed to have no soul” during his visit to the salon just before his arrest.
This encounter took place five days after the shocking murders of Kristan Amanda Brink and Clinton David Brink. The suspect, Andrew James McGann, walked into Lupita’s beauty salon in Springdale, Arkansas, shortly after 5 PM on July 30th.
Hairstylist Adriana Lewis Avalos felt uneasy when he arrived, although she wasn’t yet aware of the high-profile situation surrounding McGann. “As soon as I saw him, I told him to come to my chair; I just had this creepy feeling about him,” she recounted during an interview.
Avalos insisted that McGann looked “soulless” and that something about him just didn’t seem right. She remarked that it was her first time seeing him, and noted his hair and scalp were in poor condition, describing them as “very dry and matte.”
While getting his haircut, McGann’s eyes appeared “very sunk.” The 28-year-old suspect requested that nothing be cut from the top of his hair, perhaps to hide from view, after having eluded authorities for almost a week.
Law enforcement tracked him to the salon, where his car, a 2022 Kia Stinger, was parked outside. As detectives entered, McGann lowered his head, seemingly trying to avoid their gaze. Avalos mentioned that he didn’t react much when the detectives suggested, “I think it’s your car.”
It seems McGann was unaware of his situation until it was too late. Surveillance footage showed him being arrested midway through his haircut, with the barber’s cape still on him. This cape was removed as he was escorted from the salon.
McGann is alleged to have attacked the Brinks while they were walking with their two daughters in a remote area of the park. Reports indicate that the family was ambushed by McGann, wielding a knife. Clinton Brink managed to dodge him while Kristan rushed to protect their daughters, aged 7 and 9.
Arkansas authorities reported that, following the attack, the young girls provided detailed accounts that aided in launching a manhunt.
McGann, currently held at Washington County Jail, faces two counts of capital murder. He is said to have confessed to the crimes, although he may plead guilty. If convicted, he could face the death penalty, as prosecutors noted that blood samples found at the scene matched his.
Avalos expressed her shock, stating, “It’s sad that two little girls lost their parents. And it’s… a soulless act by Andrew. It’s hard to imagine.”
