Suspect mocks on social media for spitting on Ed Martin and faces criminal charge

Charges Filed Against District Woman for Assault

This week, the Ministry of Justice announced that they have filed charges against 32-year-old Emily Gabriella Sommer, who is from the District of Columbia.

The Department of Justice asserts that Sommer, identified as a left-wing attacker, made comments on social media that could be linked to the crime against Edward R. Martin Jr., a former interim U.S. attorney. She faces a charge of assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a government official.

Authorities found the social media account with the username @emilygabriellas, which appears to be connected to Sommer. The name “lefttits” has also been identified as likely belonging to her.

In an encounter, Sommer reportedly approached Martin, asking, “Who are you?” before colliding with him and moving east on a Northwest street.

There are related incidents that have drawn media attention, including Martin being spat on during an outdoor interview.

After analyzing online activity, law enforcement arrested Sommer on Thursday. The DOJ pointed out that on the evening of May 8, 2025, the account made multiple posts about the incident.

Interestingly, some posts were identical to statements from a U.S. lawyer in D.C.

In a light-hearted moment after the incident, Martin joked about one of the reasons he wears a great coat.

Currently, he holds the position of U.S. Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General of the Department of Justice.
