Incident Involving Illegal Alien Suspect in Monrovia
An illegal immigrant suspect lost his life on Thursday after jumping onto the highway in an attempt to evade federal immigration officials who were conducting operations at the Home Depot in Monrovia, according to city officials. He was struck by a vehicle and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Dylan Feek, the city manager of Monrovia, mentioned that the individual fled from the parking lot of the Home Depot, located about 20 miles north of Los Angeles, likely to avoid detection by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
The Monrovia Police Department was alerted on Thursday morning about the potential ICE operations at the home improvement store situated at 1625 Mountain Avenue. Officers responding to the scene saw ICE agents approaching and commenced enforcement activities.
According to reports, one person escaped on foot, crossed Evergreen Street, and entered the eastbound lane of the 210 highway. At 9:52 AM, Monrovia fire rescue received reports of a collision involving a pedestrian. The ambulance transported the individual to the hospital, where it was confirmed he later died from the injuries sustained during the incident. Authorities have yet to disclose the man’s identity.
ABC7 stated that investigators from the California Highway Patrol indicated the man was struck by an SUV traveling at speeds between 50 and 60 mph.
Breitbart Texas has noted that the Home Depot in California has become a focal point for immigration enforcement, with many day laborers often congregating nearby in search of employment. In early August, 16 undocumented individuals were apprehended in a surprise operation. Border Patrol agents conducted this raid from a Penske Rental truck, an event referred to as “Operation Trojan Horse,” occurring at another Home Depot near MacArthur Park.
On social media, Gregory K. Bovino, who oversees California’s federal immigrant deportation efforts, commented on the situation, emphasizing that the location is not merely a gathering place for hardworking, undocumented workers. He referenced a prior arrest of a day laborer with a significant criminal history, including convictions for theft and substance possession, as well as multiple DUIs and prior deportation.
Additionally, the Socialism and Liberation Party staged a protest at the Home Depot in Monrovia on Thursday, where participants held a sign reading, “the ICE has been removed from our community.” Reports from the Department of Homeland Security suggest that immigration enforcement actions across the nation are diminishing.
