Florida Home Invasion Captured on Video
Recently released footage from a Florida home invasion reveals a couple being chased by an armed robber using an Apple AirTag, culminating in them being held at gunpoint.
The incident occurred on August 19, with Luis Charles, 26, and Odaldi Maldonado Rodriguez, 32, accused of placing an AirTag beneath the couple’s SUV to track their movements to their home in Odessa, Florida.
“The suspects forced the victims into the garage at gunpoint but fled when an alarm went off. Detectives later found an AirTag taped to the underside of the victims’ vehicle,” according to a statement from police.
Charges against Charles and Maldonado-Rodriguez include armed robbery, multiple counts of armed kidnapping, robbery with a firearm, false imprisonment, and illegally installing a tracking device.
“It’s terrifying to think of a family being ambushed in what they consider a safe space,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Thanks to the diligence of our detectives, these dangerous individuals are behind bars now, allowing victims and the community to breathe a little easier.”
The video captures the moment the couple exits their vehicle in the driveway when the suspects approach them from either side. They then compelled the couple into their house, triggering an alarm, after which both suspects escaped.
Charles was apprehended on October 8 in Tampa, with police subsequently notifying Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In addition to the robbery charges, he is facing a separate charge of sexual assault involving a minor.
Maldonado-Rodriguez was arrested shortly after, on October 10, in Pasco County.
