Fox News host Greg Gutfeld, along with the “Gutfeld!” panel, is discussing the resignation of former California Congressman Eric Swalwell in light of sexual misconduct allegations.

Following his recent exit from the gubernatorial race and Congress, Swalwell reportedly disbursed over $360,000 to a lawyer from his campaign funds, as uncovered by a Fox News Digital investigation.

Among these was a $50,000 fee paid on April 24 to high-profile attorney Sarah Azari for “legal” services. This raises concerns about the intent behind these payments, especially given the backdrop of sexual abuse claims that hindered Swalwell’s gubernatorial aspirations and led to his Congressional resignation a mere 11 days prior.

Moreover, Californians have noted three additional payments made to Azari by Swalwell’s campaign in the succeeding month, including a hefty $250,000 intended for “campaign compliance” at the beginning of May.

The emergence of serious allegations against Swalwell gained momentum online, followed by investigative reports from major outlets like CNN and the San Francisco Chronicle. Multiple women came forward, detailing instances where Swalwell allegedly pursued intoxicated individuals, coerced employees into inappropriate situations, and sought explicit material from female colleagues.

Swalwell denies wrongdoing, acknowledges personal responsibility

These allegations had a significant impact on Swalwell’s political standing.

As prominent Democratic figures withdrew their backing, Azari has been one of the few defending Swalwell since his departure from office. She mentioned, regarding the accusations, that even if the women involved later felt regret, that alone doesn’t equate to assault.

Notably, while Swalwell denied the allegations, he still extended apologies for earlier “mistakes” during his resignation announcement.

Swalwell calls misconduct claims ‘completely false’

“I sincerely apologize to my family, staff, and constituents for the judgment errors I’ve made in the past,” he remarked. “I’m committed to fighting the serious and unfounded allegations against me, but I must also take ownership of my past mistakes.”

Azari commended Swalwell for his decision to confront the allegations head-on by resigning from both Congress and the gubernatorial race. She characterized this move as an embodiment of accountability, emphasizing that it helps him defend his ability to represent his district amid the serious claims that are still under scrutiny.

In addition to facing backlash from the public, Swalwell is also under investigation by the Justice Department for sexual misconduct, along with other inquiries happening in New York and Los Angeles.
