Sydney Sweeney Enjoys Day with Friends Following Engagement Split
Sydney Sweeney was spotted enjoying a day out on Wednesday, appearing relaxed and carefree alongside friends and family, which included a new mystery man. This outing comes a few months after her engagement to Jonathan Davino was called off.
Following the release of a bold new advertisement from American Eagle featuring Sweeney, the star of “White Lotus” opted for a black swimsuit paired with a life jacket for her lakeside adventure.
In the moments captured, Sweeney looked elegant in a simple black dress as she strolled on the dock, her naturally wavy dark blonde hair flowing. She seemed prepared for fun, sporting a life vest while tossing herself into the excitement of jet skiing with her companion.
The duo took a break from jet skiing to climb a cliff, adding a bit more thrill to their outing before heading back to the lakeside house.
Earlier this year, Sweeney confirmed her single status after ending her engagement with Davino, which had lasted for three years.
Amid her personal life changes, Sweeney’s collaboration with American Eagle for an upcoming fall campaign has drawn mixed reactions online. Some fans have raised concerns about the possible implications of the campaign’s messaging, while many defended her, asserting that it was simply an advertisement for clothing.
There was notable backlash concerning the phrasing used in the advertisements. Critics pointed out that the term “great genes” has historical connotations linked to racial and cultural nuances. Some even likened the ads to insensitive propaganda, but other followers came to Sweeney’s defense, insisting that it was just an ad for jeans and nothing more.
Sweeney herself remarked about taking this time for personal growth and cherishing her friendships, saying, “I’m learning a lot about myself and spending more time with my friends. And I love it.”
The promotional campaign features Sweeney on various digital platforms, including innovative 3D billboards across the U.S. The actress is also engaging with fans through Snapchat lenses, where she appears to address users directly.
Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from her new line, “Sydney Jean,” will reportedly support domestic violence awareness initiatives, including donations to Crisis Text Line, a service providing mental health support and crisis intervention.
Representatives for both Sweeney and American Eagle have not yet responded to inquiries regarding the campaign’s reception.
