Sidney Sweeney Addresses Controversial Advertisements
Sidney Sweeney recently spoke about her involvement in a contentious soap campaign related to bath water and the backlash stemming from an American Eagle jeans advertisement. Interestingly, she opted not to engage deeply with the controversy surrounding the jeans ad.
During a summer interview with a prominent magazine, Sweeney noted, “I think it’s important to touch on what people are discussing because it’s all part of the conversation with the audience.” This statement came to light in a piece published this week.
The infamous advertisement, linked to American Eagle’s “Sydney Sweeney is Great Jeans” campaign, stirred up quite a reaction due to its play on words involving “jeans” and “genes.” The ad featured Sweeney explaining how certain traits are inherited from parents, concluding with, “My jeans are blue,” before the camera zoomed in on her eyes. Following the negative feedback, American Eagle removed the ads from their social media platforms. They later clarified that the campaign was meant to celebrate the confidence in wearing their jeans.
Meanwhile, representatives for Sweeney did not respond to requests for comments regarding the backlash. Additionally, she has been involved in promotional content for Dr. Squatch, a men’s natural bath products brand, which included some controversially themed merchandise made from her bath water.
Sweeney reflected on social media reactions, finding humor in one girl’s comment on the notion of Jacob Elordi’s bath water. The actress shared that while she appreciates attention, she stays grounded by spending time with family—instead of seeking a more permanent residence in Los Angeles. She enjoys quality time at her family’s lake house in Idaho and another property in Florida, mentioning that she plans to head to Idaho for the Fourth of July.
When discussing her friendships, Sweeney highlighted that most of her circle isn’t in the entertainment industry. “I have a solid group of friends, many of whom I’ve known since childhood,” she said. This connection to her roots, she believes, offers a reality check, helping her maintain perspective despite her rising stardom.
Although busy with various projects and keeping a hectic schedule, Sweeney feels it’s important to remain engaged with her work. “Being on set is my happy place,” she confessed, emphasizing that her full schedule is a choice rather than a burden.
