An Arizona gang member, identified as a part of the “goon” crew, was arrested for the third time for engaging in drag racing while under house arrest. This individual, Talyn Vigil, is currently awaiting trial concerning the death of a 16-year-old boy, Preston Lord, who was killed during a group attack on Halloween 2023.
Vigil, 20, recently faced charges for reckless driving and highway racing after law enforcement caught him performing burnouts and racing on a motorcycle with another rider near the Arizona State University campus in Tempe. He was released on a $5,000 bond following his arrest, as indicated in court records.
Police reported that both Vigil and his accomplice were seen weaving through traffic, doing burnouts while stationary at stoplights, and participating in speeding exhibitions, significantly ignoring Arizona traffic laws. Their reckless behavior posed a clear danger to other drivers, as noted by Tempe police.
After his arrest, a judge revoked Vigil’s driving privileges, but he attempted to explain his actions in court. “I honestly, I agree with you,” he stated, suggesting that he understood the seriousness but also implied some level of denial about his responsibility. “I’m not going to say anything, you know, but it wasn’t my fault, and I’m honestly going to stay off of driving myself.”
This recent incident was not Vigil’s first run-in with the law while awaiting trial. He had previously been arrested twice: once in September 2025 for violating a protection order by making unauthorized contact and again in February for another reckless driving charge. He has been under house arrest, monitored electronically, related to the murder case involving Lord.
In March 2024, he was charged with kidnapping and murder for his alleged role in the fatal beating of Lord during a Halloween party in Queen Creek, Arizona, where around 250 teens were in attendance. Reports indicate that a group of about 15 masked individuals, associated with the “Gilbert Goons,” followed Lord and his friends when they attempted to leave after a dispute arose. During the incident, one of the gang members stole a necklace from one of Lord’s friends, leading to physical confrontations where Lord was attacked.
As chaos erupted, Lord and his friends tried to escape from the party venue, but he was ultimately overwhelmed and beaten while on the ground. Despite attempts at CPR from witnesses, he succumbed to his injuries two days later in the hospital.
Vigil is among seven teenagers charged in connection with Lord’s death, others being Treston Billey, William “Owen” Hines, Jacob Meisner, Talan Renner, Taylor Sherman, and Dominic Turner. While Vigil, Renner, and Meisner are facing charges as adults, Hines has accepted a plea deal resulting in a 12-year prison sentence. The rest are preparing for a trial scheduled for November.
Interestingly, Vigil reportedly confessed to a friend via Snapchat, admitting his involvement in the attack and indicating that he witnessed the severe impact on Lord. “I hit a kid and this kid hit his head,” he allegedly stated, followed by a troubling comment about the situation’s aftermath.
