WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Update
The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship changed hands during “Friday Night SmackDown.” Fatal Influence’s Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid began the night expecting to defend their titles against Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley. But things took an unexpected turn when Jade Cargill, Michin, and B-Fab attacked Flair backstage, rendering her unable to compete.
In a twist, Alexa Bliss stepped up to fill in for Flair. It looked like Henley and Reid might resort to some underhanded tactics. At one point, Henley had Paxley pinned but was trying to cheat by using the ropes and Reid for leverage. Fortunately for the match, the referee caught them before the count could reach three. Meanwhile, when Reid was distracted, Bliss took the opportunity to jump in and hit the Sister Abigail on the floor.
And just like that, Henley lost focus on Paxley. The newcomer then executed the Cemetery Drive, pinning Henley for the win. So, it turned out to be a moment of celebration for Paxley and Bliss, while Henley and Reid were left in disbelief.
This match marked the end of Henley and Reid’s title reign, which lasted 83 days. They had claimed the tag titles at Saturday Night’s Main Event in July by defeating Brie Bella and Paige.
For Paxley, this was quite the achievement—her first title on the main roster. She had previously made a splash in NXT, holding multiple championships. On her SmackDown debut, she had even helped Bliss and Flair fend off an earlier attack from Cargill’s group. It seems that while that trio still poses a threat, at least now Bliss and Paxley have some gold to celebrate.
As for Bliss, she has now become a five-time tag team champion, previously holding the titles alongside Flair, Asuka, and former WWE star Nikki Cross.
