Teacher Accused in Arkansas Double Murder
A 28-year-old teacher is facing charges for allegedly stabbing a couple in front of children at Devilsden State Park in Arkansas. Reports indicate that Andrew McGann had previously moved between four school districts across three states before this incident.
McGann, who was charged with two counts of capital murder for the deaths of 43-year-old Clinton David Brink and his 41-year-old wife, Christan Amanda Brink, had been placed on administrative leave from an elementary school in Flower Mound, Texas, in spring 2023. A parent of a student in one of McGann’s fifth-grade classes in Oklahoma recalled that their initial interaction was rather off-putting. “He was just attacking,” said Kyle Swanson, noting that McGann wasn’t very engaging and seemed more focused on the children than on adults around him, leaving a somewhat strange impression.
McGann graduated from Oklahoma State University Tulsa with a Bachelor of Science in spring 2022 and holds a valid teaching license in Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. Consequently, none of those states have reported any violations or suspensions related to his professional credentials. After taking administrative leave in spring 2023, McGann resigned from the Louisville Independent School District about a month later.
Sierra Malcolm, another parent, expressed her concerns as her son had come home upset about McGann’s behavior, leading her to report it to the principal. Reports suggest that McGann might have displayed indifference towards students.
Interestingly, McGann had a brief stint teaching at different schools in Oklahoma, with no issues reported during background checks. He was slated to begin a new position at Springdale Public Schools in northwest Arkansas on August 11, just weeks after the murder on July 26, described by police as a seemingly “random” attack.
Following his arrest, which was captured on surveillance video at a local salon, McGann had his first court appearance on August 25. An Arkansas judge ordered him to be held at the Washington County Detention Center without bail.
Amy Lovely, a friend of Kristan Brink from church, shared her grief over the loss. “She had a beautiful voice and was deeply involved in music,” Lovely reflected. “It feels unreal. They’re gone, and we need to find a way to address this tragedy.”
