Teacher Arrested After Stabbing Hoax at Texas High School
A teacher in Texas who prompted a lockdown at Splendora High School over a supposed student stabbing was arrested after it was revealed that the incident was fabricated, authorities reported.
Law enforcement officials reported that over 100 officers responded to the school following an emergency call made by a teacher around 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, as stated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The school went into lockdown as resource officers worked to secure both students and staff.
However, investigators quickly established that there had not been any actual assault.
“During the investigation, it was confirmed that there was no assault on the teacher by the student,” the sheriff’s office noted. “Detectives discovered that the injuries the teacher sustained were self-inflicted, and evidence suggests the entire incident was a hoax.”
Nicole Truelove, 53, was subsequently arrested and is facing charges of felony tampering with evidence and providing false information to authorities. She is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail.
Parents were informed that police were looking into reports of an “assault” between students and staff, according to a local report.
Within moments of the incident, detectives started investigating, reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and collecting evidence until they confirmed that no assault had taken place.
Authorities emphasized that the situation was contained and posed no ongoing threat to students or the public.
Truelove’s bail was set at $20,000 on Friday, and if she is released, she will be under GPS surveillance and prohibited from approaching any school or Splendora School District properties. She had been employed at the school for about a year.
Officials reiterated that the incident was isolated with no continuing danger to the community.
