Conflict in Nancy Mace’s Gubernatorial Campaign
Republican Representative Nancy Mace is facing some heat in her campaign for the governorship of South Carolina. The controversy springs from remarks made by a former consultant who took to social media to voice his grievances.
Austin McCubbin, a seasoned Republican operative and ex-advisor to Mace, announced his resignation on Monday. He accused her of being disloyal to former President Donald Trump, claiming she had “turned her back on MAGA” to align herself with the “political cactus” that represents figures like Rand Paul and Thomas Massie within the party.
In a detailed post on X, McCubbin expressed his displeasure, stating, “My name is being used in public, but, contrary to her word that she would pay me, she is using my position as Team Trump to work on her behalf in the White House. I am completely dissociated from her campaign out of loyalty to the president.” This statement certainly adds fuel to the fire.
Mace’s team was quick to respond, describing a distinctly different narrative. A spokesperson for her campaign told Blaze News that “Mr. McCubbin never raised a penny for his campaign, much less even bothered to show up.” They further called into question his motivations, alleging that when he was turned down for a $10,000 monthly fee, he “ran straight to X.”
Adding to the conversation, Mace herself took to social media, labeling McCubbin as “tone-deaf” and “out of touch.” She shared her frustration about political consultants demanding high fees for what she deemed unhelpful advice, stating, “People who depend on the elite. The powerful. The ruling class. Completely incomprehensible. Tone-deaf. To the needs of the powerless.”
Mace’s supporters noted her firm alignment with Trump, reinforcing that she has been by his side since the beginning and even pointed out that McCubbin once praised her potential as the “most pro-Trump, America-first governor in the country.”
