Teen illegal immigrant arrested in connection to murder, mutilation of California man found in car

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office announced that an 18-year-old undocumented immigrant has been arrested in connection with the January incident in which a California man was found mutilated inside his car.

On Friday, April 5, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives arrested a juvenile suspected of murdering 25-year-old Friley Hernandez of Mendota.

Detectives did not release the suspect’s name because he is in juvenile court, but said they determined he was an illegal immigrant from El Salvador.

Detectives added that the boy is in the country illegally and is on probation for assaulting his mother.

On January 17, 2024, deputies responded to check on a vehicle parked in the middle of an orchard near Belmont and Washoe streets, just west of Mendota. Inside the car was the dismembered corpse of a man.

The victim was later identified as Hernandez, and detectives believe he was an acquaintance of the suspect.
