Teen Fights Back Against Subway Mugger
A teenager was attacked on a New York City subway last Thursday night when a robber slashed him in the face and stole his phone. Surprisingly, the victim managed to turn the tables by grabbing the knife from the assailant and fighting back fiercely.
The 18-year-old and a friend were on the Bronx 2 train heading to Pelham Parkway around 7 p.m. when the suspect, accompanied by a group of seven, approached them, demanding to see his phone, as reported.
As the victim produced his phone, the robber yanked it away, leading to a physical struggle. During this chaotic moment, a knife dropped onto the subway floor, according to police reports. The assailant then used the knife to slash the teen’s face, inflicting some serious wounds.
But, in a twist, the victim picked up the robber’s knife and stabbed him multiple times in return. Emergency responders later took the assailant to Jacobi Hospital, where he was in stable condition and facing anticipated charges.
The victim was also taken to Montefiore Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, while his friend sustained a punch to the face during the altercation.
Police are investigating, as they believe that the robber’s accomplice has been linked to other similar criminal incidents on subways and throughout the Bronx.
Interestingly, no immediate charges were filed against anyone involved. Meanwhile, response on social media has been largely supportive of the teenager’s actions. Comments on the news article range from advice to “give that young man a beer!” to affirmations of his bravery, with plenty of people expressing their satisfaction at seeing someone stand up to crime.
