Charges Filed Against Armed Group in Detention Center Attack
The Justice Department has charged ten members of an armed group accused of attacking an ice detention center on July 4th with attempted murder.
These individuals reportedly donned military-style attire, including tactical vests, and directed fireworks at the Prairiland Detention Center located near Dallas. Prosecutors noted that one suspect exchanged gunfire with two detention center workers, while a police officer from Alvarado incurred injuries from gunfire in the vicinity.
The injured officer was later treated at a hospital and subsequently released, according to Officer Alvarado. All ten suspects now face multiple counts: three for attempted murder and three for the reckless discharge of firearms in relation to violent acts.
Allegations suggest that the group executed an “organized attack” in a wooded area adjacent to the facility. They reportedly launched fireworks and spray-painted parked vehicles belonging to the center, as detailed in the complaints.
Upon law enforcement’s arrival at the scene—prompted by a 911 call from the detention staff—they encountered gunfire originating from nearby woods. Another assailant purportedly fired 20-30 rounds at two unarmed federal agents exiting the building before fleeing the area, armed with assault rifles and ammunition.
Reports indicate that some group members were equipped with body armor and two-way radios when deputies from Johnson County, alongside other law enforcement, apprehended them.
One officer discovered a can of spray paint and a flyer containing slogans like “Fighting the horror of ICE in a class war!” The slogans included statements such as “All political prisoners are free” and called to “resist fascism – fight against oligarchy” found among the suspect’s belongings.
Court documents reveal photos depicting official vehicles defaced with terms like “traitor” and “ICE pig.” Deputy Nancy E. Larson remarked, “This was undoubtedly not a peaceful protest. The increase in violence against law enforcement in Northern Texas is intolerable.”
This incident is part of a growing trend, as another clash occurred in Oregon on the same day between protesters and federal agents at an ICE facility following a significant policy announcement from President Trump.
Authorities are keeping a close watch on assaults against DHS detention centers in both Prairiland and Portland, Oregon, according to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche on social media. The ten individuals charged in the Texas incident are Cameron Arnold, Savannabatten, Nathan Baumann, Zachary Yvetz, Joy Gibson, Bradford Morris, Mariselaruda, Sethsykes, Elizabeth Soto, and Ines Soto.
