A Tennessee state senator has been arrested on DUI charges after he was photographed allegedly failing a breathalyzer test following a drunken hit-and-run crash in Georgia.
Around 5pm on Tuesday, Congressman Ken Yeager, 77, was caught on camera staggering as officers tried to get him to walk straight on Jekyll Island. Footage obtained by WTVF is shown.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety said the Republican lawmaker had previously been involved in a hit-and-run accident after authorities spotted his Ford Edge with Tennessee-issued Senate tag license plates in a supermarket parking lot. He was arrested.
Authorities said Yeager, who chairs the Republican Senate Caucus, smelled of alcohol and admitted to being involved in the crash.
He then allegedly agreed to take a breathalyzer test.
Footage showed the casually dressed senator struggling to keep his balance as he tried to put one foot in front of the other. According to the video, he appeared to pee in his pants.
After taking a breathalyzer test, Yeager was arrested for DUI and booked into the Glynn County Jail.
The results of his alcohol blood test were not immediately available.
“An unfortunate incident occurred last night,” Yeager said in a statement obtained by a local broadcaster.
“On the advice of my attorney, I cannot discuss any further details at this time. I have and will continue to cooperate fully with the authorities to appropriately resolve this case.”
The Post reached out to Yeager's office, but there was no immediate response.
The investigation into the hit-and-run incident is ongoing, authorities said.
