A California bakery owner was left “high and dry” after electric car maker Tesla ordered $16,000 worth of pies, only to have them canceled just before delivery.
Voahungy Lacetarinella, owner of The Giving Pies in San Jose, said she received an order for 4,000 pies on Valentine’s Day from a representative from a company owned by Elon Musk. told NBC Bay Area.
Tesla employees reportedly told the black executive, who is admired by other Silicon Valley executives, that they wanted him to deliver pies the following week for an event commemorating Black History Month. That’s what it means.
Lacetarinella sent Tesla a quote, which a company representative approved, she said.
However, Tesla’s vendor did not remit the payment.
The next day, Racetarinella said she contacted Tesla about the missing payment.
“She said, ‘Oh, it’s really too bad the vendors haven’t paid you yet. I think they’re kind of new,'” Racetarinella said.
“So, I have a question: Can you double my order?”
Racetarinella agreed, but her staff had to work around the clock to complete the job.
The bakery owner said he had to cancel other orders and buy more ingredients to accommodate Tesla.
After taking on the heavier workload, Racetarinella said he received a text message from a Tesla representative that read: “Unfortunately, we have had to change our plans and it appears that this order is no longer necessary. Thank you very much for your support, we appreciate it.”
Racetarinella said her business lost more than $16,000 as a result of the last-minute cancellations.
“This sudden reversal left me shaken and realizing the magnitude of the impact on my small business,” Racetarinella wrote on his Facebook page.
“We invested time, resources and effort based on a warranty from Tesla, only to end up feeling high and dry.”
When she contacted Tesla about the cancellation, she was told the decision was made by upper management.
“Attempts to shift responsibility to higher-ups only exacerbated the betrayal I felt,” she said.
“It was clear to me that Tesla’s corporate culture prioritized convenience over accountability and ignored the lives of small business owners like me,” she wrote on her Facebook page. .
