Tesla Recalls All Cybertrucks Due to Dangerous Faulty Accelerators

Elon Musk’s Tesla has announced a recall of all 3,878 Cybertrucks it has shipped so far due to a defect that could cause the accelerator pedal to stick, increasing the risk of an accident.

tech crunch report Elon Musk’s Tesla is facing yet another setback after recalling all 3,878 Cybertrucks delivered to date due to a manufacturing defect in the gas pedal assembly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that the pedal may come off and get stuck in the footwell trim, leading to unintended acceleration and an accident.

The recall comes amid a difficult week for Tesla, which saw it lay off more than 10 percent of its workforce and lose two senior executives. Additionally, Tesla asked shareholders to re-vote on CEO Elon Musk’s hefty pay proposal, which a judge previously rejected earlier this year.

Reports of problems with the Cybertruck’s accelerator pedal began surfacing in recent weeks, and Tesla suspended deliveries while it investigated the issue. Musk said on X/Twitter that Tesla is being “extremely cautious,” but the company confirmed to NHTSA that it has not received any reports of crashes or injuries related to the defect.

According to Tesla’s findings, the problem stems from an unauthorized change in the manufacturing process that introduced a lubricant (soap) to help attach the pad to the gas pedal. Residual lubricant reduced the pad’s retention on the pedal, causing the pad to fall off.

To address this issue, Tesla plans to replace or rework the gas pedal on all existing Cybertrucks and has already begun producing vehicles with the new gas pedal design. The company also repairs Cybertrucks while they are in transit or at distribution centers.
