Tether Mints 1 Billion USDT Ahead of FOMC Meeting

Tethermint Sends 1 Billion USDT, 225.3 Million to Bitfinex

Whale Alert, a well-known blockchain tracking service, recently reported that Tether has generated another significant amount of USDT, totaling 1 billion, executed on the Ethereum blockchain. This occurred around thirty minutes ago.

Following this, Tether’s social media stated that a portion—specifically 225,364,963 USDT—was transferred directly to Bitfinex Exchange, which has ties to Tether. This transfer comes ahead of the upcoming FOMC meeting set for later today.

In the past, circulating stablecoins, particularly those held by exchanges, have often acted as a kind of “dry powder” for traders looking to acquire Bitcoin.

A tweet from LookonChain, which monitors crypto analytics, highlighted this substantial USDT issuance, pointing out that previous occurrences of similar mints have seen Bitcoin prices rise afterward. Thus, there’s a conversation brewing about whether Bitcoin might surge again today or within the week due to these developments.

The FOMC Meeting Will Be Held Today

Top analyst Michael Van de Poppe took to social media to remind everyone about the FOMC meeting scheduled for today. Analysts generally expect the Federal Reserve will maintain current interest rates for June. While economic indicators seem stable, uncertainty looms regarding predictions for the remainder of the year, largely due to trade tariffs and the volatile situation in the Middle East. The next FOMC meeting is set for July 29-30.

Van de Poppe noted that Bitcoin prices have historically dipped the day before such meetings. He mentioned this pattern—often a “risk-off” period followed by a “risk-on” sentiment—provides a chance for Bitcoin accumulation.

As for Bitcoin’s recent performance, it dropped by 3.73% on Tuesday, amounting to a 4.84% decrease over the past two days as tensions in the Middle East unfolded. However, Bitcoin saw a slight increase of 1.78% today, only to face another decline. As of now, Bitcoin is trading at $104,770.
