Texas AG Paxton sues Eli Lilly for allegedly bribing doctors to promote their drugs

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated a lawsuit against the pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly.

The legal action claims that Eli Lilly is involved in an illegal kickback arrangement that compromises medical decision-making.

On Tuesday, Paxton, a Republican, issued a statement regarding the lawsuit.

“I can’t just sit back while companies unlawfully manipulate our healthcare systems for profit,” he asserted.

The Attorney General’s office has accused healthcare professionals of being bribed to prescribe high-profit drugs, including GLP-1 treatments like Mounjaro and Zepbound, which are used for obesity and diabetes management, and even of committing fraud.

“Big Pharma has altered medical decisions through these illegal kickback schemes,” Paxton added.

Eli Lilly, on the other hand, has denied the allegations, attributing them to corporate “whistleblowers” previously dismissed by both the court and the federal government, according to reports.

The company plans to defend itself vigorously, referencing past rulings that found insufficient evidence to warrant charges.
